1. The Bayshore Apartments will hold an open house and grand reopening 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday to show off the $3 million renovation project by developer Williams/Dame & Associates, of Portland. The 100-unit complex is hovering at 70 percent occupancy and features one, two and three bedroom units.

2. Construction workers with The Siding Company, of Canby, install HardiePlank siding over the orange Vapro Shield permeable weather membrane and air barrier as part of the renovations Wednesday at the Bayshore Apartments. Williams/Dame & Associates Vice President Christopher Longinetti explained that the apartments, built in 1971 as Astoria Student Housing, were not built to suit the climate. With the renovations he described the Bayshore as a building wrapped in Gore-Tex.

3. The 100-unit Bayshore Apartments renovation has included new double-pane windows, fiberglass entry doors, a high-wind rated roofing replacement, a complete siding replacement, as well as full interior upgrades.

4. Jim Hill, right, the construction manager with Williams/Dame & Associates, describes the renovation work in progress at the Bayshore Apartments to Astoria-Warrenton Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Skip Hauke. Old insulation, studs and siding damaged by high winds and rain is being replaced with materials specifically designed to stand up to coastal weather conditions. When Williams/Dame & Associates acquired the property in January, more than 25 percent of the units were unrentable because of deferred maintenance issues and water intrusion.
