Bibles Message Also Applies to Knolls
To the editor:
I am writing because I must respond to the bigotry spewed by Dick Knolls (June 10 and July 11 letters). Bigotry is ugly. It is especially ugly when it poses as virtue. He compared LGBTs to pedophiles. This was simply a tactic employed to marginalize an entire segment of society.
When he was called on that, he stated that he could have used serial killer, serial adulterer or serial thief because he was just illustrating that LGBTs are sinners. According to his own handbook (the Bible), that measure of standards (those labels) should apply to him as well because it clearly says that all have sinned and fallen short. Right, Mr. Knolls?
Judge not unless you be judged by the same measure. Right, Mr. Knolls? There has been more evil perpetrated in the misapplication of biblical teaching than anything else in the haunting history of humanity.
To see this illustrated, one needs to look no further than the inquisition, the exploits of the ironically named Holy Roman Empire, Hitlers Third Reich (Pink triangles again, Mr. Knolls?) or the 1,000-plus years from the dawn of Christianity until the Renaissance, referred to as the Dark Ages because the church eclipsed the truth and tyrants employed its teachings as a way to suppress and victimize the populace.
Well, now it appears that Knolls would have us revisit these oppressive times. I for one stand firm and shout no! We, as LGBTs, have endured and now emerge from the storm and, like Noah, can see the rainbow, a symbol of diversity, acceptance and peaceful coexistence.
After surviving 2,000 years of bigotry, hatred, intolerance and extermination, you had better know that we are going to declare and celebrate our pride.
Finally, I would like to remind Knolls that Jesus himself had two daddies and was carried by a surrogate. Try a little love, Mr. Knolls. After all, it is what Jesus commands.

Homosexuality Wasnt Mentioned by Jesus
To the editor:
In regard to the letters from Dick Knolls and Janis Garland, it is the opinion of this writer (and perhaps many readers) that there are three truly great literary works in this world. The oldest and most important of these is the Bible. The second oldest would be the works of William Shakespeare. The newest is (collectively) the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
The Bible tells us that God settles all debts, will mete out justice and will pay back for wrongdoing. This means that God has the final say in everything. The Declaration of Independence tells us that some things are obvious, like the unalienable rights of life, liberty and pursuit of happiness.
This means that every citizen of the United States of America is blessed to live, conduct his or her business and worship the God of creation (or any other god of their choice) in a nation that recognizes Gods importance.
Who should be concerned if someone doesnt agree with them? As a follower of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, my duty, my charge, my joy is to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Sometimes this requires uttering words. Usually though, it requires trying to be an example.
Speaking of Jesus, any question this writer has about thought-provoking statements in the Bible gets compared with Jesus words for clarification. Jesus spoke primarily of the nature of God, of love and of honesty. There was also some mention about the evils of man passing judgment and acting superior.
Jesus never mentioned homosexuality. How important then can it be? The Bible also tells us to lead by example teach your children and your associates about God, respect, love and honesty. They will likely follow your example. God can sort out the rest. Hes up to the task. What might Shakespeare have to say about this issue? Methinks Knolls protests too much.

Writers Pulpit Is The Chronicle
To the editor:
The Rev. Dick Knolls is truly an asset to our community. He preaches sermons to us using The Chronicle as a pulpit. He is also very tolerant and hasnt met a conspiracy theory yet that he doesnt like.
We now learn that pastor Knolls is an expert in human genetics (July 11, page Main 6, Being LGBT is a Choice, Not in the Genes). He tells us that homosexuals are not born that way but choose to be homosexual.
Pastor Knolls, please tell us where you obtained your scientific information. Perhaps it was from the Journal of Human Genetics, the Journal of Heredity or some other prestigious scientific journal. I have a question, pastor: Why would anyone choose to be homosexual and spend the rest of their lives living in fear of persecution or being killed?
