Ear: Vanity

Just what you need: Cardrates.com, the self-described “ultimate guide to credit cards,” has some news for you. They surveyed “over 3,012” Oregonians to “find out the lengths people will go to boost their social standing — even if it comes at the cost of financial strain … “

Coming in at No. 1 in the “Vanity Values” status symbol department: “Oregon’s top status symbol is owning a luxury beachfront home in Cannon Beach … the pinnacle of coastal living in Oregon.”

“In second place is owning a private cabin in the Columbia River Gorge … (which) blends rustic charm with elite status. Surrounded by dramatic cliffs, waterfalls and hiking trails, these cabins provide a secluded retreat for those who appreciate Oregon’s breathtaking landscapes and outdoor adventures.”

In third place? “ … Owning a private vineyard in the Willamette Valley … signifies both success and a passion for winemaking.” And let’s not forget the “agricultural prestige and scenic beauty.”

Nah, I’d still prefer Astoria. (Photo: Elleda Wilson)
