Smith new sales director of Tillamook Fred Meyer

Smith began her duties April 10.

She replaces Sam Strouse, who is now the director at Fred Meyer’s new Wilsonville store.

Smith began her career with Fred Meyer at age 17 at the store’s Coos Bay outlet. “I basically grew up in the company,” said Smith, who also has worked at the Roseburg and West Eugene Fred Meyer stores.

She opened a new Florence Fred Meyer outlet as store director in 2000. She returned to the Coos Bay store as apparel manager in 2002 and became the Coos Bay store director in 2004.

Smith plans to be a Smart Reader volunteer at Tillamook schools and hopes to launch a Junior Achievement project teaching young people about business and volunteering in the community.

In 1999, Fred Meyer was purchased by the Kroger Co., creating the largest grocery chain in the nation.
