JEWELL – A slow start cost the Jewell Bluejays Monday night at home, as Neah-Kah-Nie jumped out to a 24-3 lead after one quarter, on its way to a 63-43 win over Jewell in a nonleague boys basketball game.

Mike Maizel scored 28 points and teammate Scott Porter added 23 to lead the Pirates, while Luke Swearingen led Jewell with 14 points, nine assists and eight rebounds. Donald Tate scored 11 for Jewell.
