OK, Goonies fans, news has been popping on the Internet this week about a FAN-CREATED GOONIES MUSICAL, with words and music by ROB DEAN and KEITH DOUGHTY, not to be confused with the Broadway version Goonie director RICHARD DONNER has been working on developing.
The fan duo’s MySpace page (www.myspace.com/gooniesthemusical) says: “Dean & Doughty began their musical odyssey with ‘The Goonies’ in the Spring of 2002 penning the epic ‘SLOTH’S SONG’ in a cramped Vassar College dorm room. Since then, the legend has grown as has the song catalogue which includes such fan favorites as ‘TAKIN’ IT BACK,’ ‘OUR TIME,’ and the party anthem ‘FIFTY DOLLAR BILL.’ The songs have only been performed once, in a packed coffee house in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., which resulted in thunderous applause and one girl … breaking a chair…
“While they are not ‘officially’ working with the production of ‘Goonies: The Musical,’ Dean & Doughty hope their MySpace page will begin an underground Internet upswell that Richard Donner and Steven Spielberg simply cannot ignore. Remember kids, we’re all searching for our One-Eyed Willy … For us, One-Eyed Willy is the realization of seeing our long planned dreams come to fruition on stage.”
Four of the songs are on their MySpace page; for YouTube videos, go to (http://tinyurl.com/goonmusic), where you can even subscribe to hear/see new songs as they are posted. For videos and lyrics, go to (http://tiny url.com/gooniemusic)
