Maria L. Morrisson of Gearhart has won a Fulbright award and will spend the next year as an English teaching assistant in Taiwan. She will teach in an elementary school in Yilan, a small coastal county in Northeast Taiwan, about an hour outside of Taipei.

She will graduate from Lewis & Clark College in Portland in May with a bachelor’s degree in East Asian Studies and a minor in Chinese. When she returns from Taiwan, she will head to New Orleans with the Teach for America program, which granted her a one-year deferral so she could take advantage of the Fulbright award.

Morrisson is a 2006 graduate of Seaside High School and the daughter of Lenore and Patrick Morrisson of Gearhart.
