Obituary: Phyllis M. Ricketts

Phyllis M. Ricketts, 83, of Wheeler, died Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at Nehalem Valley Care Center in Wheeler.
She was born April 22, 1927, in Silverton, to Ted and Wynola Hedges.
She lived in the Philippines from 1936-1939, where her father was the forman of a veneer mill on the island of Luzon. Upon his death, the family returned to Silverton, where she graduated from high school in 1945.
On April 4, 1947, she married Robert G. Ricketts in Silverton. He preceded her in death in 1998. The couple moved to the Oregon Coast in the late 1950, and to Seaside in 1961.
Mrs. Ricketts was a homemaker until 1964, when she became the postal clerk for Cannon Beach. She retired in 1989.
She was a Girl Scout leader, and a Cub Scout leader when her children were involved in scouting. She and her husband resided in Elsie for many years.
Family members said her hobbies included quilting, reading and sewing. Her biggest enjoyment came from spending time with her family.
She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Sharon and David Buerk and Annita Brock, all of Seaside; two sons and daughters-in-law, Craig and Charlene Ricketts of Gresham and Robert and Patricia Ricketts of Colorado Springs, Colo.; nine grandchildren, Angela Holmes of Portland, Dale Holmes of Seaside, Lynn Wheeler of Clinton, Utah, Lisa Hood of Spokane, Wash., Karrie Wren of Fort Riley, Kan., Rebbeca Duaime, Robert Ricketts and Cassandra McLaughlin, all of Colorado Springs, and Tiffany Fischer of Gillette, Wyo.; and five great-grandchildren, Maggie and Lydia Hood, Alex and Marina Wren and Robert Ricketts.
She was preceded in death by a brother, David Hedges, in 1984.
A family celebration of her life will take place at a later date.
