Ryan Dewey, owner of Cannon Beach Hardware and Public House, has paired the two inside his new store in Haystack Square.

He and his father, Craig Dewey, drew inspiration from the small towns in Ireland where the hardware store is also the local pub.

“We saw a need,” said Ryan Dewey. “It’s been 10 to 15 years since Cannon?Beach has had a hardware store. …Getting to Seaside in the summer. People are happy to have the convenience.”

Craig Dewey did the merchandising and advertising for Norm Thompson department store for years, and is using that experience to do the ordering and buying for the hardware store.

The store is great for the second home owner in town who needs to pick up a light bulb or other odds and ends, Ryan Dewey said, and for contractors who need to grab something fast on a Friday night and don’t have time to drive out of town.

The store sells bolt fasteners in stainless steel and brass, gardening tools and camping gear, among many other items.

It also has Budweiser on tap, wine by the glass and several other selections of bottled beer and soda in glass bottles, which are stored inside a vintage 1970 Coke machine.
