The Astoria-Warrenton Area Chamber of Commerce invites any interested community members to come to a free showing of “The Goonies” at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Liberty Theater. The doors will open at 6 p.m.
In tribute to the long-lasting popularity and loyal cult following of “The Goonies,” the Astoria-Warrenton Chamber of Commerce is planning a 25th anniversary celebration in honor of the movie’s original 1985 release.
Scheduled for June 4 through 7, the event is expected to draw thousands of fans to the area. Plans for the event, and how local residents and businesses can get involved through volunteer opportunities, sponsorship and participation in a variety of activities, will be discussed before the movie is shown.
“Ashamed, many locals admit to me that they would like to help with the event in June, but have not watched the movie at all, or at least not seen it in years, myself included,” said Regina Willkie, Astoria-Warrenton Chamber marketing manager. “We felt showing ‘The Goonies’ would be a great way to have some fun with the community while at the same time sharing the great opportunities that ‘Goonies 25’ offers to our volunteers and businesses alike.”
