Obitauries: Michael ‘Doc’ Buchman

Michael “Doc” Buchman, 92, of Astoria, died Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010, at home.
He was born April 21, 1917, in Winnipeg, Canada, to Isaac and Mollie (Kerchun) Buchman.
He received a fellowship in dentistry from Kansas City Western Dental College in 1941.
In 1943, he married Connie Peake. She preceded him in death in 1981.
In 1983, he married Jean Smith in New York. She survives, residing in Astoria.
Dr. Buchman practiced dentistry for 35 years in the U.S. Navy Dental Corps.
He was a member of the American Diabetic Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Military Officers Association of America, American Legion, Elks Lodge and Vasa Order of America. He was a Shriner for 50 years.
Family members said he traveled and volunteered in Third World countries.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Timothy Buchman of Fields; four stepchildren, Joyce Judah, Jim and R. Chuck Smith and Joan Gorbein; and seven grandchildren.
Visitation will take place before the funeral, which will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church, 725 33rd St. in Astoria.
Interment will be at 12:30 p.m. Monday at Willamette National Cemetery.
