Rosalinda Lopez Nestor, an incoming senior at Warrenton High School, was crowned the 130th Astoria Regatta queen on Wednesday night at a coronation ceremony at the Liberty Theatre.

Lopez Nestor and the other princesses of the Regatta Court were named in the spring and have been participating in activities leading up to Astoria Regatta Festival this weekend. They presented their speeches one last time for a panel of judges at the theater.

Lopez Nestor’s spoke about Barbara Roberts, a Democrat who was the first woman elected as Oregon’s governor. She said she was in disbelief when she heard her name called as queen. “I didn’t register it. I was like, ‘Oh, that’s me. Wait, that’s me’,” she said.

Lopez Nestor said she was excited to bring her Latina heritage into the historical tradition of the Regatta. “A lot of people came out to, you know, just to support me,” she said.

Lopez Nestor’s sister, Alejandra, was a princess on the Regatta Court two years ago, and their family was there to watch her. She said her family encouraged her to be herself on stage.

“I want to thank my parents and my sister. They have been my biggest supporters, along with the princesses and Queen (Jasmine Schermerhorn),” Lopez Nestor said of last year’s queen.
