Coast Rehab thrift store expands into new location

Coast Rehabilitation Services, the local non-profit serving the area for over 30 years, recently expanded its thrift store operation at a new location at 207 7th St. in Astoria.
CRS will still operate out of its old location at 1062 Marine Dr. in Astoria, but in a different capacity. The Marine Drive location will house all of the bigger thrift items, including furniture, appliances and electronics, while the new location will house everything else. The basement of the Marine Drive location, which previously served as storage, has now become a repair shop for damaged donated goods.
“We were getting too full at our other locations, so the move has really helped us out,” said Linda Kinnunen, store manager. “Plus, the new space is in such a good location. We have literally done a month worth of sales in a week because of the increased visibility.”
CRS held a grand opening for the new location on October 20, and hopes to be fully moved-in over the next month.
Kinnunen said the non-profit is always looking for donations, and accepts them at either location. Pick up and delivery service is also available in some areas.
“People in the region are very generous with donations, but what they don’t always know is that a lot of their donated goods end up getting shipped out of town,” Kinnunen said. “If you drop anything off with us, we guarantee it will be sold to those in need in the region.”
Coast Rehabilitation Services’ mission is to provide compassionate, competent, consistent individualized support to persons with disabilities as they pursue their own goals for personal and economic independence, full inclusion in the life of the community and personally satisfying lives.
