Letter: Hold the butter!

“Golden Rule: Made of hard metal so it could stand severe wear, it not being known at that time that butter would answer.” — Mark Twain
Five years ago, the current vice president ran for president on a platform of banning fracking, abolishing Immigration and Customs Enforcement, mandatory gun buybacks, banning new gas powered car sales by 2035, banning private health insurance, getting rid of the border wall and hiring fewer Border Patrol agents.
But just last week, in her first interview since President Joe Biden quit the presidential race, Vice President Kamala Harris flat out contradicted her ingrained position on these and other issues.
When CNN’s Dana Bash pressed her on her dramatic change, the vice president quite casually uttered, “I think the most important and most significant aspect of my policy perspective and decisions is my values have not changed.” I find it disconcerting that when at the ne plus ultra of a career she stoops to pandering to both sides of the political aisle.
As a California “prosecutor,” a member of the U.S. Senate and as vice president, this presidential candidate has held an extremely far-left stance on most social issues. Yet now, since Biden quit, she wants to convince Americans she has changed her immoderate positions.
In just two months, Americans will have a chance to vote for the future of this great nation, and I hope most people will understand that this metamorphosis will not happen, and that she’s just buttering up uninformed citizens for their vote.
