The FisherPoets Gathering swims back to Astoria
The FisherPoets Gathering will return to Astoria for its 29th year Feb. 29 to Mar. 1. The weekend event is an homage to the commercial fishing industry through poetry, prose, song and celebration. Venues all over Astoria will host poetry performances at multiple venues all over town including: Astoria Brewing Company (144 11th St.), The Columbian Theater (1102 Marine Dr.), Fort George Brewery (1483 Duane St.), Kala (1017 Marine Dr.), The Liberty Theatre (1203 Commercial St.), Sisu Brewing Company (115 Marine Dr.), and Xanadu (1104 Marine Dr.).
Workshops, special events and related exhibits will happen as well. Some are ticketed and some are not. A paper schedule of events will be in the Feb. 26 edition of Coast Weekend. Event buttons ($20) are good for admission all weekend. After 8 p.m. Saturday night, the prices go down to $10 cash at the venue doors. Parks looking for rangers
Oregon State Parks is hiring seasonal park rangers and park ranger assistants for positions across the state for the 2026 season.
According to a press release from OSO, hiring starts this month and runs through June with new positions listed on a rolling basis on the website. The positions last anywhere from four to nine months. Most seasonal staff work April through September, but some start as early as February and work as late as December.
Salaries start at $20.28 per hour for seasonal assistants and $23.79 for seasonal rangers. Both positions include benefits. Student workers, ages 16 and older, who are enrolled in high school start at $20.27 or more per hour, depending on experience. Road work for week of Feb. 23
Crews will be: tree trimming on Tweedle Lane, Cow Creek Road, Bay Road, and in the Brownsmead area.
They will also be shopping on Lewis & Clark Road. Flaggers will be present; expect minor delays. And they will be brushing on Labiske Lane and Lewis & Clark Road.
