Free and open for students, job-seeking public

Clatsop Economic Development Resources (CEDR) and WorkSource Oregon will be hosting the annual Clatsop County Job & Career Exploration Fair on Tuesday, March 3, at the Seaside Civic Convention Center from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Over 60 employers, hundreds of high school students from the five Clatsop County and Ilwaco high schools, college students and job seekers are expected, said the event officials. In addition, the fair is also open to the general public.

Attendees will have access to employer tables. Volunteers will also be on hand to review resumes and practice job interviews. In addition, this year’s job fair will debut breakout sessions in construction, education, healthcare, hospitality, maritime and natural resources.

Representatives from Clatsop Community College (CCC) will be set up across a few different locations: one with general information about the college, another specifically for the nursing and health professions programs, and CCC President Jarrod Hogue leading the maritime sector breakout session.

“The college has been part of the fair for years and believes it is a great benefit for the community to have all of these opportunities presented under one roof for those looking to find their path, change their career, and just see the options that are available locally,” said CCC Communications & Marketing Director Julie Kovatch. “This is a great community and for many people the goal is to live here, learn here and work here. Events like this help make that a reality.”

John Demase, Project Specialist at WCT Marine & Construction Inc., said being a part of the job fair is a way to give back to the community. “We are dedicated to mentoring the next generation of maritime and construction professionals. WCT Marine representatives will continue to be active participants in local job fairs, connecting with job seekers and discussing career pathways in our industry,” he said. “Our community is the foundation of our success, whether it’s in the classroom, on the athletic field, or at the county fair, we are proud to show up and support the people and places that make this region home.”

CEDR Executive Director Kevin Leahy said all job seekers are welcome.

“The public is encouraged to attend the event to learn about new job and career opportunities,” Leahy said. He hopes that parents will see the value as well and “reinforce the importance of this event and help prepare (their children) to maximize the experience.”

The job fair is still accepting employers. Free registration and more detailed information is available at ClatsopJobFair.com.
