RAINIER, Oregon — Alissa Jenay Jarvis, 23, of Astoria, died at 6:54 p.m Monday night, Feb. 9, the victim of a head-on collision on Oregon Highway 30.

A preliminary investigation by Oregon State Police indicated an eastbound Chevrolet Tahoe, operated by Lorenza Gaspar-Mateo, 34, of Longview, crossed into the westbound lane and struck Jarvis’ westbound Subaru Crosstrek. Jarvis was declared deceased at the scene.

Jarvis was employed at Oceanside Animal Hospital in Seaview.

The operator of the Chevrolet — Gaspar-Mateo — was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries.

Impairment and lane safety are considered primary contributors to the crash, OSP said in a Feb. 10 news release.

The highway was impacted for approximately five hours during the on-scene investigation.

OSP was assisted by the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, Columbia River Fire, and Oregon Department of Transportation.
