Letter: Trump trampling on our constitutional rights
Published 1:46 pm Sunday, February 1, 2026
There are certain rights that are reserved for U.S. citizens. But the rights granted by the Bill of Rights apply to every single human being within the jurisdiction of the U.S. government, without exception. The constitutional rights of undocumented individuals to due process are being violated by the current administration.
Additionally, harassment of and the use of undue violence against peaceful citizen protesters is rampant. The right of people in America to assemble and to exclaim their displeasure about what their government is doing is constitutionally guaranteed, and that guarantee is being consistently broken by agents of the U.S. government all over the country, most especially in Minnesota, at the moment.
The rights promised by the First, Second, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth and Seventh Amendments, which should apply to all persons, are being denied to all persons by ICE and Customs and Border Protection agents and officers. They are committing criminal offenses.
These crimes should be investigated, and the people responsible should face legal consequences, However, we are seeing not the slightest move to hold those people accountable for their crimes, not even in the case of homicides.
This is not the America I was brought up to believe in and to defend. The American people need to rise up and declare this reign of terror over before tyranny becomes normal in America.
