Letter: Crying police chief ‘too tough to endure’

On the same day I watched the University of Oregon’s football team get creamed by a bunch of Hoosiers, I witnessed the police chief of my hometown, Portland, cry over the shooting of two “nexus” members of a violent gang from Venezuela. These two thugs are still alive, but the Webfoots are dead as far as a national championship goes.
I can imagine thousands of fans crying over the Ducks’ defeat. What I can’t understand is why the head law enforcement officer in the Rose City got the weepies over known Tren De Aragua criminals. I’m not sure which is worse, getting slaughtered in a big game, or seeing international gangsters and local cops on the same team. In this case, I’m not sure who is the biggest loser.
I’ll admit I gave up on Oregon when they fumbled on their own three-yard line in the first quarter. All was lost. Watching Portland Police Chief Bob Day blubber over people who shouldn’t be anywhere near Multnomah County made me fumble the TV remote. In each instance, it was too tough to endure.
For Duck fans, there’s hope for “next year.” For Oregon citizens, we can only have optimism for the “next election” where voters can choose candidates who won’t support gang members who have infested not only this state, but many other Sanctuary states.
In the meantime, I will support officers who enforce the law. For the remainder of football season, all I can say is: Go Seahawks!
