Since it’s New Year’s Day, here are a few hints from Parade Magazine to help the upcoming year become a good one:
• Looking for more travel and adventure this year? A Columbian New Year superstition suggests grabbing an empty suitcase and running around with it for a bit.
• Many believe eating collard greens today will bring good luck and prosperity in the new year.
• If you can find a scarecrow, go ahead and burn it. It will give you a fresh start this year.
• The Danes believe breaking dishes on the doorstep of a neighbor or family member will bring you good luck this year. Keep in mind that your neighbors and family members are likely to be less than thrilled.
• Or, less intrusive, run around your house seven times for good luck. Which might be a challenge for those of us who live on the edge.
