From the Publisher: New publisher takes the helm

I am honored to introduce myself as the new publisher of The Astorian. For the past 25 years, I have worked behind the scenes to ensure the newspaper’s quality and production, and I am proud to now take on the responsibility of publisher.
Local journalism matters. Studies show that communities with trusted local media experience higher civic engagement, greater transparency and less political polarization. The Astorian newsrooms will continue to serve as a reliable, independent voice for the communities we cover.
Our focus remains rooted in what matters close to home.
• Local issues such as regional politics, city hall meetings, school board decisions and infrastructure projects that affect daily life.
• Community interest stories profiling the people, organizations and businesses that make our towns unique.
• Local sports from Clatsop County high school athletics, plus other youth and adult leagues.
• Public safety reporting including local police activity and arrest logs.
Also as important as reporting the news is engaging with the community. We encourage readers to be part of the conversation. If you have an event, announcement or story idea, you may submit a press release to The Astorian. We also welcome letters to the editor as a vital way to share perspectives, raise concerns and celebrate community achievements.
Local journalism is strongest when it reflects the voices of its readers. Thank you for your trust, your readership and your continued engagement. I look forward to The Astorian team working to keep our communities informed, connected and heard.
Local journalism matters.
