Closed for New Year’s Day

In observance of New Year’s Day, all federal, state and county offices are closed Thursday, as are all U.S. post offices, and there is no mail delivery.

Astoria and Warrenton city offices are closed Thursday. Seaside city offices close at 3 p.m. Wednesday, and are closed Thursday. Gearhart city offices are closed Wednesday and Thursday, and Cannon Beach city offices are closed Thursday and Friday.

Astoria, Jewell, Knappa, Warrenton/Hammond and Seaside (including Cannon Beach and Gearhart) school district schools, and Clatsop Community College, are closed Thursday and Friday.

The Astoria Library and the Warrenton Community Library are closed Thursday. The Seaside Library closes at 3 p.m. Wednesday, and is closed Thursday. 

The Port of Astoria offices and services are closed Thursday.

Garbage collection through Recology Western Oregon and the city of Warrenton garbage collection are not affected by the holiday. Recology Western Oregon’s transfer station closes at 2 p.m. Wednesday, and is closed Thursday.

The Sunset Pool in Seaside is closed Thursday. The Aquatic Center is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday and closed Thursday. 

The Clatsop County Heritage Museum, Oregon Film Museum, Flavel House and Carriage House are closed Wednesday and Thursday. The Uppertown Firefighters’ Museum is closed.

Fort Clatsop is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday. The Columbia River Maritime Museum is open from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday.

Sunset Empire Transportation (“The Bus”) is not running Thursday.

The Astorian offices are closed Thursday.

 

Clatsop Care Center Health District seeks new board member

Clatsop Care Center Health District, a local provider offering a full continuum of senior care and support services, is seeking applicants for an At-Large Board Member position. According to a press release about the position, this volunteer leadership role provides an opportunity for a dedicated community member to make an impact on healthcare throughout Clatsop County.

Responsibilities include: Attending monthly board meetings on the first Tuesday of each month; participating in committees; reviewing reports and financials; engaging in strategic planning and long-term decision-making; and collaborating with district leadership and fellow board members.

Local transportation district announces three new commissioners

Three new commissioners were selected and sworn in at the Sunset Empire Transportation

District Board of Commissioners meeting on Thursday, Dec. 18, 2025. They will

serve two years and the three positions will be on the ballot at the May 2027 elections.

Position 1 is filled by Dr. Penny York, Matthew Stolberg of Astoria was appointed to Position 5 and filling Position 7 is Clatsop County native Kathleen Teeple who grew up in Astoria and now resides in Seaside. 

The commissioners set policy and adopt the annual budget for Sunset Empire Transportation

District as well as provide oversight of the district as well as the SETD executive director.
