On the “all things nautical” front: Just when you thought yachts couldn’t get any more excessive, along comes XXL superyacht Sky, being built for an unnamed billionaire by Dutch shipbuilder Royal Huisman.
The 264-foot aluminum vessel’s mast is approximately 305 feet tall, the height of the Statue of Liberty from ground to torch, which will break the vertical height record currently owned by Jeff Bezos, the Amazon billionaire.
Designed for “extended world cruising,” she has twin carbon composite rudders, four main generators and a supplementary battery bank, can regenerate energy while under sail, and has zero emissions.
Sky can accommodate 10 to 12 people. The owner’s stateroom is the width of the vessel and has large windows in the hull. Equipped to carry a 39-foot tender, also on board are a “crew/rescue tender, two water scooters, and various watersports equipment, including a comprehensive scuba setup” and several folding platforms.
The prospective owner will have to be very patient, though. She is finally ready to be built … but won’t be ready until 2030. (Photos: Royal Huisman)
