In One Ear: Searching for Marty
Published 8:00 am Thursday, May 8, 2025
Adventures with Purpose divers, Jared Leisek (founder), Kade Pigg and Matt Moss, quietly arrived in the Astoria area recently to continue their search for Marty Benthin-Evans, missing since Feb. 10, 1990.
After serving as a bridesmaid at a wedding, she left the High Climber Room lounge in Knappa around 9:30 p.m. She never arrived at her destination in Warrenton. She was driving a borrowed brown 1984 Ford Ranger pickup, which disappeared with her. Many think her truck went off the road and into one of the sloughs.
Adventures with Purpose has made three previous searches since 2020 in the sloughs and rivers between Knappa and Astoria, which are documented on the “Missing Persons Cold Cases” section on their YouTube page.
Marty’s sister, Linda Benthin-Weirup, won’t give up until Marty is found, and is grateful for their ongoing assistance.
“Happy to help Linda in her continued efforts,” Jared wrote, “to make sure Marty is not forgotten, as we, and others, search for her.” A map of the places they’ve searched is at tinyurl.com/MartyMap. A video of their latest search will be up in 30-60 days.
“They came diving in search of Marty’s truck,” Linda said. “They’d never searched the Svensen Island area, and redid Brownsmead Blind Slough … No luck. I feel so lucky they don’t give up.” (Photo: Linda Benthin-Weirup)
