Seaside boys can add golf-tournament champion to their resume.
After taking part in tournaments against 5A and 6A schools, the Seagulls traveled to Meadow Lakes Golf Course in Prineville.
The course is where district championships will be held later this month, so Seaside got a chance to compete against most of the teams it will see in the championships.
Seaside won the Crook County Meet with a score of 320. Pendleton and 5A Hood River Valley tied at 333. Crook County High finished fourth, and second among the teams who will compete at the district championships, with a score of 345.
Madras was fifth with 349. Scappoose followed with 359, and Molalla shot 390. The Dalles finished at 410. Estacada scored 421, and Gladstone had a score of 449.
Molalla’s Massimo Cereghino shot one-under par 71 to take medalist honors. Seaside’s Xanh Quang tied for second place with Hood River Valley’s Aksel Betz, with a score of 75.
All four scorers for Seaside finished in the top 10. Logan Norman and Alex Arden tied for seventh with an 81, and Madden Wunderlich finished ninth with an 83. Landon Nofield was the noncounting score at 104.
“We finally won a tournament,” joked head coach Jim Poetsch in a statement.
“Of course it helps that we are finally playing in a tournament without all the top 6A schools in the state. Hood River is a pretty good 5A team, but we have yet to get beat full strength by anyone but the really good 6A teams.
“We did a pretty good job with our course management. Most of the strokes we lost were to mishit shots, which are always going to happen, not to poor decisions. We are at the point of the season where tournaments will be won or lost by decisions of how to play a hole, and we showed some real maturity in that aspect.”
The Seagulls are set to travel to Tokatee Golf Course in McKenzie Bridge on Monday for the 4A State Preview.

Warrenton has strong outing against Neah-Kah-Nie
Freshman Gavin Brown broke into the 70s as he led the Warrenton boys golf team against Neah-Kah-Nie, Portland Adventist Academy, Catlin Gabel and Portland Christian at Gearhart Golf Links.
While the Warriors had good scores by those who took to the course, they only had three members, so they were not counted among the scoring teams. Neah-Kah-Nie took the win with a team score of 375, followed by Portland Adventist Academy, Catlin Gabel and Portland Christian.
Brown shot a season best 79 to take medalist honors. Tyler Simonsen was the second Warrenton scorer with a 90, and Jackson Bellone shot a 92. Simonsen finished fifth overall, and Bellone was sixth.
