From “The Journal of William Thomas Emerson: A Revolutionary War Patriot, Boston, Massachusetts, 1774”: “Do not underestimate the firmness of our resolve. The others will stand with us, for they know we are engaged in a glorious struggle. Virginians, New Englanders, Pennsylvanians, Marylanders. No, I say. Americans. Americans one and all … We shall be independent. Nothing short of that will suffice or satisfy.”
William was a 12-year-old orphan, and he called himself Will. He writes in his journal about his experiences in Pre-Revolutionary War Boston, where he joined the cause of the patriots against the rule of the British Crown.
From the mouths of babes, there is so much to fight for.
