With a number of critical issues on the Port of Astoria’s horizon, I would like to endorse candidate Thomas Brownson for Port Commission, Position 1.

I have known Tom for over 15 years, and had the honor of serving on Astoria City Council with him. He has always remained informed, integrous, level-headed and strongly connected to the community. He has reliably demonstrated the ability to listen, consider situations from a variety of angles and work in a constructive manner towards collective solutions.

While on council, I often looked to Tom for guidance regarding matters to do with the Port because he regularly attended Port Commission meetings, and provided the council with Port updates. Tom also served on the John Day Water District Board and the county’s property value appeals board.

His insight was extremely valuable as the council navigated topics such the city’s comprehensive plan, economic development and zoning. The city’s relationship with the Port has always been an integral part of Astoria, and this is precisely where Tom’s experience intersects.

He remained a strong advocate for the Port while on council, and I believe he will continue to provide the leadership required to contribute to the organization’s current operations and responsible growth.

Thomas Brownson has my respect, my support and my vote for Port Commission, Position 1.
