Letter: Pay attention to logging’s many benefits

People who disagree with logging are simply not educated, or they haven’t really looked into the benefits, despite the low negatives that come at the cost of new habitat.
There’s no easy way to fall an 80-foot pine tree; logging has come a long way from what it used to be. The most common arguments against logging would be that it’s bad for the environment, and it’s destructive, and harms the habitat climate change, but have you genuinely looked hard into the benefits?
Forest regeneration: This means that the soil gets new room and air to breath and regrow rather than being suffocated under decades of growth. Logging large portions, or even smaller portions, creates a fire barrier for wildfires. Fire takes off 10 times more when it has live dry wood to burn through in bulk.
Lastly, animals enjoy being around new growth logging in general. If you think animals such as deer, elk and other animals get run out of the area because of the machines and such, that’s wrong, and a biased opinion. Animals strive to eat those new minerals an uprooted tree brings, or the ash from a slash pile burning throughout the night.
Logging is essential in keeping our forest safe and healthy, regardless of people’s opinions.
