Letter: Proud to be a voice for change

If I had been alive between 1848 and 1920, I would have been marching for women’s suffrage, and be proud to tell my granddaughters I did something to make a difference for the better.
The 19th Amendment of 1920 gave the other half of the population the right to vote. They finally had a say on laws that affected them. I will continue to show up and speak out to make our country better for all citizens!
What we have now is not normal, and is an embarrassment to America. Being a part of the “Hands Off” Rally on April 5 along Marine Drive, with about 1,000 of us, according to KMUN, was inspirational, and makes me proud to be part of Astoria’s voice for change.
As John E. Lewis said, “get in good trouble.” We can all at least show up and speak up!
