Eight years ago, Dirk Rohne was elected to the Port of Astoria Commission. It was a time of chaos at the Port.

It had three executive directors in one year; two different auditors had to be hired to straighten out the finances when two accountants had to be terminated, and had to be paid $400,000 to resolve a potential lawsuit; there was serious deterioration of the Port’s
infrastructure; the Tongue Point property was over $1 million in debt; and tenant rents were undervalued, and many unpaid, etc.

Dirk led a progressive commission (numerous times as president) out of indecision and lack of direction, to a successful positive direction it is now on. I was on this commission all during this time, right up to this moment, and saw firsthand his leadership.
