The Astorian Invitational: Astoria High School boys and girls win track meet

The Astorian Invitational track meet has become a fixture for the community.
This year, Astoria High School took first place for both genders in Saturday’s event.
The boys scored 135 points, and the girls finished with 129.
Seaside boys scored 88.5, and the girls 87. Washington’s Ilwaco boys had 38.5, while the girls scored 16, and Jewell girls finished with 8 points.
Astoria boys see breakout performances
Freshmen sprinters Dominick Cayetano Cruz and Emiliano Jimenez Cruz had standout performances in the 100, 200 and 400 meters.
Dominick set personal best times in the 100 and 200, while Emiliano set a personal best in the 100 and 400 meters.
Dominick Cruz finished second to Seaside’s Ryder Jackson in both of his events with times of 11.87 in the 100 meters and 24.56 in the 200 meters. Emiliano Cruz clocked a personal best of 12.38 in the 100 meters to finish fifth, and he crossed the line in 58.42 seconds in the 400 meters to set a new personal best time.
Trevor Morrow finished third in the 100 meters with a personal best time of 12.09, and Brayden Wintersteen set a season best time of 58.26 in the 400 meters.
Maurice Meecham in the 800 meters, Kellen Gustafson in the 1500 meters, Recker Harvey in the 3000 meters and Tayden Cole in the 110 hurdles also logged personal bests.
Meecham crossed the line in 2:17.72 to win his race; Gustafson ran a 5:03.81 to finish second behind Harvey, who finished the 3000 meters in a time of 10:13.06.
Cole finished second behind Alex Bilyeu of Seaside, in a time of 18.96. Bilyeu also set a personal best of 18.49 in the same race.
Astoria boys also set personal bests in the field events.
The Fishermen took the top four spots in the shot put, led by freshman Magnus Kryzanek.
Isaac Lindstrom won the discus in a personal best throw of 108-feet-1 inch. Kryzanek also set a personal best in the same event at106-feet-5 inches. Thomas Burpee finished third with a season best of 104 feet.
Edwuard Lepe Ramirez set a personal best in the javelin with a throw of 127-feet-7 inches to finish second behind teammate Adrian Balli.
Astoria girl sprinters clock best times
Essence Harris and Cadence Sopko set personal best times in the 100 meters on Saturday afternoon. Harris crossed the line in a time of 14.21 and Sopko finished with 14.84.
Sofia Rickenbach finished third in a time of 14.76. Ayla Gustafson finished first in the 200 meters in a time of 28.93. She was joined in the top four by Sofia Nygaard and Rickenbach.
Nygaard and Molly Magie set personal best times in the 400 meters. Lillian Smith set a personal best in the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 20.28 to finish second behind Clover Bellew.
In the field events, Chloe Hovden was second in the pole vault at 6 feet. In the long jump, Gustafson and Eva Espelien set personal bests to finish second and fourth. In the triple jump, Madeline Williams set a personal best with a jump of 33-feet-10 inches.
Jackson paces Seagulls
Ryder Jackson paced Seaside once again.
Jackson won both the 100 and 200 meters, while also featuring on the Seagulls winning 4×100 meter relay team. Jackson set a season best sprint of 11.18 seconds in the 100 meters. He was joined in victory by teammate Alex Bilyeu, who set two personal best times in the 110 and 300 hurdles.
In the field events, Jackson Curtis was victorious in the long jump, high jump and triple jump. Logan Thompson set a personal best in the javelin with a throw of 120-feet-4 inches.
On the girls side, Lillian Morris set a season best in the 100 meters and a personal best in the 200 meters. Ariana Rojas Mora ran a personal best in the 400 meters with a time of 1:05.98.
In the field events, Alessandra Jantes and Maddy Wrege set personal bests in the shot put and discus while Maddie Menke set season bests in the long jump and triple jump.
Top athletes star at Portland
A few athletes made the trip to Portland for the Meet of Champions.
Quin Gohr set a personal best in the 400 meters with a time of 50.15 to win against a competitive field.
Knappa distance runners Wyatt Jacobson and Oskar Peitsch ran season best times in the 1500 meters. Jacobson also ran a season best of 9:17.26 in the 3000 meters to finish seventh behind Astoria’s William Laman, who ran a 9:10.35.
Warrenton athlete Jayden Warner set another personal best in the 3000 meters with a time of 8:49.41.
