Three Astoria FFA Chapter members earned awards at the Oregon FFA State Convention in March.
Maevri Bergerson won her State Championship in the Agricultural Education Proficiency area. This Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) included teaching over 330 students in the Astoria School District about agriculture and career development in agriculture. She also taught middle school students about what FFA is.
Signe Rickenbach won her State Championship in Specialty Animal Production. This SAE included managing her 11 beehives. Additionally, she processed and sold honey to community members and local businesses.
Shaelyn Bangs received fourth place in the Creed Speaking Leadership Development Event (LDE). The FFA Creed outlines the organization’s values and beliefs.
Bergerson also received fourth place in Agriculture Advocacy. The Agriculture Youth Awareness LDE’s purpose is to encourage community agriculture awareness projects in Oregon’s FFA/Agriculture classes. The Astoria Chapter also hosted a rural work stress seminar, which provided tools to rural workers, spouses and family members.
Bergerson and Rickenbach will advance to the national level.
