In One Ear: Windblown

The newest big bad boy in the largest wind turbine blade playground is global wind company Siemens Gamesa which, incidentally, created the world’s first offshore wind farm off Denmark, according to New Atlas.
The company beat the world’s previous turbine blade length champ, China (who has held the title for the last seven months), by creating the Siemens SG DD-276 blade, which is a preposterous 905 feet from end to end.
A gargantuan three-bladed turbine has already been built by Siemens Gamesa, and is now being tested at Test Centre Østerild in Northern Denmark, which touts itself as having “some of the best wind conditions in the world.”
Who knew there was such a thing as a wind turbine test center? They have nine test stands, and yes, they allow visitors. More than 50,000 tourists turn up there every year. How’s that for an off-the-beaten-path windblown tour? (Photo: Siemens Gamesa)
