Seaside sprinter sets meet record in 200-meter dash

Personal best times and meet records fell Saturday for Astoria and Seaside high schools track athletes during the Lower Columbia Invitational at St. Helens.
Knappa and Warrenton High Schools traveled to Banks for the Rob Frank Invitational.

Jackson shines for Seaside
Seaside sprinter Ryder Jackson set a meet record Saturday at the Lower Columbia Invitational.
Jackson started off the day with a season best time of 11.36 in the 100-meter dash to finish second. Then he came back and broke a record that stood for 39 years. Jackson ran the 200-meter dash in a season best time of 22.51 seconds. It bested the previous meet record of 22.54 set by Dallas High School’s Greg Byrne in 1986.
Seaside boys also had strong performances in the jumping events by Jackson Curtis and freshman Trey McCleary.
Curtis finished fifth in long jump with a jump of 18-feet-1 inch and second in the triple jump with a season best of 39-feet-2 inches.
McCleary set two personal bests in the high jump and triple jump. He jumped 5-feet-4 inches in the high jump to finish fourth and finished seventh in the triple jump with a jump of 35-feet-3 inches.
On the girls side, the jumping duo of Maddie Menke and Ella Clyde had strong performances, while the Seagulls saw a couple personal best times on the track.
Menke and Clyde finished first and second in the long jump after two season best jumps.
Menke won the event with a jump of 15-feet-9.25, while Clyde soared to new personal best of 15-feet-7 inches. Clyde would also set a personal best in the triple jump.
Ariana Rojas Moras ran a personal best of 1:06.49 during her fourth-place finish in the 400 meters and Clover Bellew set a personal best time of 53.05 to finish third in the 300-meter hurdles.

Astoria athletes set personal best times
Quin Gohr had a strong meet for the Astoria boys team as he finished the weekend with three personal best results.
Gohr came home fourth in the 200 meters and ran a personal best of 23.83. He won the 400 meters in a personal best time of 52.04 and capped off his day with a third place finish in high jump with a jump of 19-feet-5 inches.
Sophomore distance runner Recker Harvey set a personal best in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:15.44. Harvey outstretched David Villanueva Cortes of Woodburn to take the victory.
Elizabeth Joli was victorious in both the 1500- and 3000-meter races for the Astoria girls. Joli set a season best in the 1500 and personal best in the 3000. Freshman Clara Moore won the girls triple jump with a jump of 33 feet. Moore now becomes the fourth Fishermen girl to crack the top ten in 4A for the early season.

Warrenton athlete wins 100- and 200-meter races
Warrenton sprinters had good performances on the track during Saturday’s meet.
Brenna Qualm won both the 100- and 200-meter races in personal best times, while Addie Earl and Kimber Parris set season best times in the 200- and 400-meter races.
The boys team was led by Jayden Warner on the track and Brian Xochipiltecatl in the throws.
A week after setting the school record in the 3000 meters, Warner got back to work setting another personal record.
He ran a 4:04.11 in the 1500 meters to take first place and move up to third in the event for the 3A Division. Xochipiltecatl set a pair of personal bests in the shot put and discus. He finished seventh in the shot put with a throw of 12.90 meters and was fourth in the discus with a throw of 36.02 meters.

Knappa distance runners leads the way
Senior Joshua Peterson clocked a personal best time in the 800 meters to lead the Logger distance trio.
Peterson had a time of 2:06.64 to finish in fourth place. Wyatt Jacobson ran a season best of 2:09.78, and Oskar Peitsch clocked a season best of 2:13.33.
In the field events, Parker Stevens threw a season best distance of 13.64 meters in the shot put to finish third place. He was joined by Henry Oien, who set personal bests in both the shot put and discus.
On the girls side Faith Pedersen set a personal best time in the 100 meter hurdles. Lucy Oien had a personal best throw in the discus of 35.27 meters, and Nadia Gremar won the javelin with a season best throw.
