Students from five area high schools gathered at Patriot Hall on Tuesday for the 10th annual job fair held by Clatsop Economic Development Resources.

Some 500 students from Astoria, Warrenton, Jewell, Seaside and Knappa high school walked among tables set out by local employers on the gym floor. They had a chance to speak with business owners and get a feel for what working in Clatsop County could be like. The event hosted 70 employers as well as resume reviews and practice interviews.

Kevin Leahy, the executive director of Clatsop Economic Development Resources, grew up in Astoria and wanted to show students the diversity of the county’s career opportunities. The booths showcased a wide range of industries from more traditional industries like fishing and logging to industries such as hospitality and health care.

The event, which was largely staffed by volunteers, also was open to students at Clatsop Community College and the general public. Next year’s job fair will be held in Seaside.
