I’m not bothered by the supporters of the current Republican administration who are cheering the federal budget cuts and their consequences. They voted for it, they’re happy about it, feel this is what needs to be done, and have no concerns about how things are going.
No, what is bothering me are the people who elected the current president and would now like to be exempted from the consequences of this administration’s policies.
I’m referring to the man whose wife was deported to Venezuela, the farmer who had a contract to sell his crop to the U.S. Agency for International Development, the Republican senators begging to save the funding for medical research and infrastructure projects in their districts, while funding is cut everywhere else, the business owner hurt by tariffs or anti-American sentiment, the business owner who doesn’t want his workers deported, the fired federal worker who thinks he should get his job back because he voted for Trump three times. And on and on. They all want a government bailout and special treatment.
People who put us on this path by voting for the current Republican administration should certainly share in whatever follows from dismantling government agencies, ruining global alliances, defunding research, undermining national security, implementing tariffs and trade wars and whatever else is coming.
