Astoria is full of sounds, often musical ones. But in a resistance movement against the British government considering using copyrighted work to train artificial intelligence models (unless creators specifically opt out), the Associated Press reports that more than 1,000 British musicians have released a 12-track album of … nothing. The title is “Is This What We Want?”

The album, by artists both famous and unknown, features “almost silence,” composer and AI developer Ed Newton-Rex, who organized the album, said. The tracks are actually recordings of empty studios and performance spaces, “to symbolize what we expect will happen if the government’s proposals go through.”
