Workshop planned for girl builders
Hampton Lumber is teaming up with Girls Build to expand its summer camp program for girls ages 8-15, with new weekend workshops this winter for girls and young women ages 14-18.
One of the workshops, scheduled for Jan. 24-26, is set for Warrenton.
Since 2018, Hampton Lumber has supported Girls Build’s week-long summer camps in the Oregon communities of Warrenton, Tillamook and Willamina/Sheridan, providing girls with hands-on opportunities to build skills and confidence in the trades.
The new weekend workshops aim to inspire and educate participants about career opportunities in their communities while providing hands-on experience in carpentry, electrical work, plumbing, and more.
“Our partnership with Girls Build is a fantastic opportunity to expand access to educational programs that empower young women to explore careers in the trades and develop practical skills that will benefit them for years to come,” said Kristin Rasmussen, director of public affairs and communications at Hampton Lumber.
Each workshop will include 14 hours of class time over the weekend — two hours on Friday night, eight hours on Saturday, and four hours on Sunday, with meals provided. Each workshop is limited to 20 participants.
Other workshops will be held Feb. 21-23 in Tillamook and March 14-16 in Sheridan.
In addition to the workshops, Hampton will continue to sponsor week-long Girls Build summer camps for girls ages 8-15. The camp in Warrenton is scheduled for Aug. 18-22. The Sheridan camp will be held Aug. 4-8 and the Tillamook camp Aug. 11-15.
Cost of the weekend workshop is $60. To register online go to the website girlsbuild.org/workshops
The location of the workshop will be sent to registered participants.
