Widespread power outage triggered by damaged power line in Seaside

Pacific Power said the widespread power outage caused by high winds this week was triggered by a damaged power line near the Nike Factory Store in Seaside.

Heavy gusts of wind late Tuesday and early Wednesday — including an 80 mph gust recorded at the Astoria Bridge — caused several disruptions on the North Coast, including fallen trees that led to property damage and school closures in Seaside and Warrenton.

At one point Wednesday morning, Pacific Power said more than 16,000 customers from Knappa to Arch Cape were without power. A company spokesman said all customers had power restored within 24 hours.
