The North Coast Watershed Association needs volunteers for a riparian planting in Grizzly Slough, in the Brownsmead area, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. through Saturday.

Hand tools and gloves will be provided, as well as hot drinks and snacks. A tractor will be used to haul materials, an auger will dig most of the holes and there’s a toilet on site. To volunteer, email Kelli Daffron at ncwaprograms@gmail.com.

An open house, and the third annual Winter Market, take place from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, at the old YMCA gym, 516 12th St.

There will be handmade gifts and goods, from ceramics and fine art prints to natural skincare and locally grown jams.

The open house takes place in the watershed association office, adjacent to the gym.

Visitors can ask questions about technical advice for landowners, what kinds of native plants grow well in containers on the North Coast, locate the closest salmon stream to their property and learn about lamprey and estuaries.
