Letter: Shouldn’t have to wait

An open letter to Pacific County Commissioner Dave Tobin:

I understand the highway through Ocean Park is the purview of the Washington State Department of Transportation, but as our peninsula county commissioner I hope you would initiate an effort to lower the speed limit within the most trafficked area of town.

One recent pedestrian-car accident is enough — we shouldn’t have to wait for a fatality to bring the 35 mph limit down to a reasonable 25 mph. With the school, post office, grocery, library and park generating many walkers along Vernon Avenue, we need to slow drivers down.

Bay Avenue, a street with less business, already has a 25 mph limit — why wasn’t the Vernon speed limit lowered to match? It only makes sense.

Please help make this happen.
