The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department temporarily closed all state park beach accesses along the Oregon Coast on Thursday due to a tsunami warning.

The parks department announced it would reopen beach access points at 3 p.m. Thursday.

The tsunami warning was prompted by a 7.0 magnitude earthquake that was felt widely across Northern California.

The quake struck at 10:44 a.m. west of Ferndale, a small city in coastal Humboldt County near the Oregon border, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tsunami warning extended north along the coast to Florence.

“At this time, there is no tsunami threat for Clatsop County,” the county said in a statement. “Based on the preliminary earthquake parameters, hazardous tsunami waves are possible for coasts located within approximately 186 miles of the earthquake epicenter.

“We are closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates as needed. Please stay informed by following trusted sources and official alerts.”
