“A moment in history,” Jeff Daly posted Saturday on the Astoria Christmas Club‘s Facebook page. “Today was the day to introduce Astoria’s new Mr. and Mrs. Christmas. Jeany and Pete Birdeno are filling the shoes of Melba and Tim O’Bryant after their 27 years of giving Astoria holiday magic.”

“You know, this is actually a family, it’s family and friends. They got together, pretty much all at the same time, and everybody stuck around for 27 years,” Tim mused on a video, filmed by Daly. “I can’t believe it.”

“Pete and I are so overwhelmed and grateful for the wonderful people who gave up their Saturday morning to help us carry on the wonderful tradition of decorating downtown Astoria for the holidays!” Jeany Birdeno posted. “We had close to 50 people! First timers and old timers. We appreciate each and every one of you.”

The O’Bryants were there to help with any questions the Birdenos might have, and Jeany Birdeno posted a long list thanking those who came to help decorate. “These are the real heroes!” she declared. And with their help, the holiday magic continues. (Photos: Jeany Birdeno)
