Well, here’s an unusual partnership: Rogue Ales & Spirits is partnering with Oregon Seaweed to create Seaweed Stout, and a portion of the proceeds will go to benefit the giant Pacific octopus residing at the Oregon Coast Aquarium in Newport.

Rogue says the stout is a “blend of roasted malt, dark chocolate and chicory flavors that are underscored by subtle hops, creamy oats and a whisper of briny ocean air from the Pacific dulse seaweed,” and is available at all Rogue outlets.
“We like to think of dulse seaweed as the ‘superfood of the sea,’” Oregon Seaweed’s Jason Busch said. “Not many consumers know the health benefits and the sustainability opportunities that seaweed can provide the population.” Stout being good for you is a novel selling point.
The octopus beneficiary in question was donated to the aquarium by local fishermen after maintaining a firm grip on a crab pot (hoping for dinner, no doubt) while being hauled aboard. He will be returned to his ocean home after some care. (Images: Rogue Ales & Spirits)
