I am pleased that the offshore wind project has been put on hold. I think this project is one that was being pushed through in order to meet arbitrary goals set by the federal administration.
Wind and solar power carry negative environmental side effects, just as fossil fuels do. They have raw material issues, landscape and seascape environmental issues, such as visual degradation and habitat effects and maintenance and disposal issues over the long run.
Additionally, I have never seen an offshore-moored item that did not break loose at some point. It is important that we don’t cut off large swaths of the ocean to fishing and navigation. We must also consider the economic feasibility of any source of energy.
The bottom line is that we should use all forms of energy available in the least detrimental and most economical ways possible, and not rush into doing things which may result inĀ unforeseen consequences.
