The Oregon State Police have a new K-9 for drug detection, a 2-year-old Belgian Malinois, but she needs a name. And that’s where Oregon youth in kindergarten-through-fifth grade come in: They’re asked to help.

Each student can only enter one suggestion, and five will be chosen for statewide voting. The student with the winning name entry will meet the K-9 and receive other recognition from state police. The school with the most participants will also receive recognition. The contest closes at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, and entries must be received via the form at bit.ly/OSP_K9Contest.

“Kids come up with the best animal names,” he added, “and I’ll be happy with whatever they choose.” (Photo: Oregon State Police)
