Letter: Active and involved

Small businesses are a cherished part of Cannon Beach’s rich tapestry. Although the hospitality and food service industries’ revenue generates the bulk of the city’s budget, they lack representation. Both Erik Ostrander and Deanna Hammond have been active and involved in advocating for workers and businesses, while maintaining and preserving the character of the village of Cannon Beach.

Our village has experienced years of big-city know-it-alls trying to change our community into an elite wonderland, without solving our issues. Deanna and Erik live and work in town, and understand our issues; they see the traffic, parking problems, lack of public restrooms and lack of employee housing. We need these two on the City Council.

Erik is a multifaceted individual who manages a small hotel, leads the chamber of commerce, serves as a volunteer fireman and is a city planning commissioner. His diverse interests, from birding to podcasting, make him a unique and relatable candidate. Erik has been vocal in the code ordinance revisions, with an eye on our community’s future.

Deanna is a savvy businessperson who champions responsible spending and representation. As a small-business owner, she understands our challenges, and will advocate for responsible spending and representation of all. Additionally, she has experience as a project manager overseeing multimillion-dollar projects, so she has a good background in the projects our city is undertaking. Not only will she work towards transparent government, but she will also represent those who work hard to support our village.
