Motorcyclist killed in Highway 202 crash

A motorcyclist was killed on Sunday afternoon in a three-vehicle crash on Oregon Highway 202 in Clatsop County.

Police said a man driving a Harley Davidson motorcycle westbound at about 2 p.m. lost control while negotiating a turn and laid down, prompting the driver of an eastbound Chevy Colorado to enter the eastbound shoulder. Nathaniel Roger McCord, 68, of Scappoose, was driving an Indian Scout motorcycle westbound when he lost control, laid down and collided with the Chevy Colorado.

McCord was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Harley Davidson and a passenger suffered minor injuries, police said.

The highway near milepost 15 was impacted for about four hours during the investigation.

Coast Guard rescues surfer

stranded at Ecola State Park

The U.S. Coast Guard rescued a surfer stranded at sea on rocks at the edge of Ecola State Park on Saturday.

Alex and Nanuette Lundeen, witnesses to the rescue, said that the surfer is lucky to be alive.

“This guy was out there just getting absolutely pummeled by the water,” said Alex Lundeen. “This was not a good situation to be in; I mean this guy was holding on for dear life. His life was absolutely in danger, 100%.”

Cannon Beach Fire Chief Marc Reckmann said two brothers were out surfing off Indian Beach when surf conditions worsened. The brothers began swimming to shore when one of the brothers ended up getting pulled out to sea.

The other brother made it back safely and called for help.
