“When New York Times bestselling writer Karl Marlantes, left, traveled to Seaview, Washington, to speak at a Northwest authors’ fair at the Peninsula Church Center on Saturday, he had a ‘school reunion’ of a kind,” former Ear colleague Patrick Webb wrote.

“He was able to link up with Earl Reynolds, who lives in the Klipsan Beach area of the Long Beach Peninsula. Both were 1963 graduates of Seaside High School, and served stints in the Marine Corps. Marlantes divides his time between Seattle and Cannon Beach. He is at work on his fifth book.”
Local readers may recall that Marlantes received great acclaim for his book “Matterhorn,” which took him 35 years to write and didn’t get published until after “at least 100 rejections,” according to the Cannon Beach Gazette.
He’s also written “What It Is Like To Go To War,” and “Deep River,” a novel about a Finnish family living on the lower Columbia River in the early 1900s. (Photo: Patrick Webb)
