Prep Roundup: Warrenton volleyball loses at homecoming to Banks

Warrenton High School volleyball fell short to Banks during their homecoming game on Tuesday.

Despite a crowded student section cheering them on, the short-handed Warriors lost to Banks in three sets. The Warriors started fast in each of the first two sets, but were unable to close things out.
Warrenton let an 18-8 lead slip away in the first, then went up 7-1 to start the second only to see the Braves battle back to win. The third was competitive, but Banks prevailed. Banks won the three sets by scores of 25-23, 25-22 and 25-23.
The Warriors have been dealing with injuries to start league play and Tuesday was no different, as senior captain Kimber Parris and junior Frances Taggart missed the match.

With the loss, Warrenton fell to 2-4 in league play and will hope to get healthy over the second half of the season as the Warriors have six league games remaining.
Astoria volleyball wins season series against Seaside
It was a similar result to the first Clatsop Clash for Astoria High School volleyball.
After defeating Seaside in three sets back on Sept. 12, the Fishermen once again controlled play from start to finish and won comfortably against Seaside on Tuesday by scores of 25-13, 25-13 and 25-10.
The teams play one more time in October at Seaside.
Knappa volleyball fights hard, but can’t establish win streak
After finally breaking into the win column on Sept. 28 against Columbia Christian, Knappa High School volleyball was unable to get a second win as they fell in four sets to Faith Bible/ Life Christian on Tuesday.
The Loggers lost set one 25-20, then the two teams battled over the next three. Knappa came back to win set two 25-18, the Falcons won set three 26-24 and set four 25-23. This was a competitive match that could have gone either way, but the Loggers came up short.
Jewell volleyball on a winning streak
A three-set victory over Livingstone Adventist Academy has Jewell volleyball on a two-game winning streak.
After coming back from two sets down against C.S Lewis Academy, Jewell handled the Lions of Livingstone a second time, downing them 25-12, 25-21 and 25-17 on Tuesday.
The win pushes Jewell’s record to 4-7 overall and 3-3 in league play.
Astoria girls soccer continues goal barrage
Astoria High School girls soccer are on a roll to start league as they’ve scored 11 goals in two games.
After defeating Rainier/Clatskanie 6-0 to open league play, the Fishermen dispatched Tillamook 5-1 on Tuesday. The win sees Astoria take an early lead in the Cowapa League as they are a perfect 2-0, while Scappoose is 1-0-1 after a tie with Seaside.
Seaside girls soccer feels Cowapa heat
After a brilliant result against Scappoose, Seaside High School girls soccer got clipped by Rainier/Clatskanie 2-1 on Tuesday in what will go down as a massive result for the combined team.
The Columbians bounced back after getting trounced by Astoria to show how tough the Cowapa League seems to be playing early in the season as five out of the six teams rank inside the top 16 of the Oregon School Activities Association rankings.
Warrenton girls soccer finishes up season
Despite not having a full season, the Warrenton High School girls soccer team made the most of it. The Warriors played a junior varsity schedule and finished it off with a victory against Seaside on Monday.
With the win, Warrenton finished their first season undefeated and will look to build the program over the next couple of years to become a varsity team.
Astoria and Seaside boys soccer split results
Astoria High School boys soccer had a big game against defending league champion Tillamook on Tuesday night.
Despite the Fishermen battling all night to keep the game close, the Cheesemakers prevailed 3-1 after they scored a late goal in the second half. Edwuard Lepe Ramirez scored the only goal for the Fishermen, a penalty kick in the first half.
Seaside High School outlasted Banks/Vernonia at Broadway Field on Tuesday night. The Seagulls won 2-1 and improved to 1-0-1 in league play. With the win, Seaside sits in a tie for second place with Scappoose behind Tillamook.
